Mess of a company riddled by turnover - Manager Staffmark Employee Review

Pros

Staffmark acquired a number of businesses, and they left some of them alone for a while - it was the best of both worlds. But that didn't last very long.

Cons

Management turnover - leadership comes and goes on a yearly basis. The people that built the company all left by 2018-2019 or so, and they've just been plugging people in since. High-level leadership straight up left in a group to join a competitor, leaving an entire market without any leadership. Unethical behavior from upper management - I watched multiple people get fired just weeks before the people that fired them left for other opportunities. Multiple leaders worked together to resign at the same time (and go to a competitor), leaving everyone else completely screwed over. Lack of salary increases - I'd say I received positive reviews, but I never received one in the 5+ years I was there. I did run multiple high-performing offices and received the Diamond award for being the highest performing location in the country, but every single raise request was denied. Absolute disaster when it comes to back office support - people not getting paid for weeks on end, complete lack of urgency or knowledge from support teams to try and rectify an issue. I was calling VPs within the organization at 7pm on a Friday just to get ANYONE to respond to an email or answer a phone call - otherwise people would just ignore you.

Pros

There are strong individual contributors across the organization who genuinely care about their clients and candidates. The business itself has market opportunity, especially in industrial staffing, and there is potential to build something meaningful with the right strategy and execution.

Cons

Leadership lacks alignment between stated goals and actual execution. There is a clear disconnect between the vision communicated during hiring and the day-to-day expectations in role. In some instances, employees are placed in situations where they are asked to engage in practices that raise ethical and, at times, legal concerns. This creates an uncomfortable and high-risk working environment, particularly for those who prioritize compliance and professional integrity. Despite discussions around evolving the business toward higher-margin, relationship-driven growth, the operating model continues to default back to transactional “fill and bill” activity. Efforts to introduce more strategic structure, improve efficiency, and modernize workflows are often dismissed or labeled as unnecessary. There is also inconsistency in how policies and code of conduct are applied, which creates a perception of unfair and selective enforcement. This impacts trust, morale, and overall team performance. Additionally, there is an over-reliance on outdated sales approaches that do not reflect how modern workforce solutions are built or sustained in today’s market.
