Pros

Loved working for the library, it's incredible to be part of such an important community institution.

Cons

Some managers made doing your job difficult, or would try to deflect work to other departments instead of being a team player.

Pros

Overall a forward thinking organization that has the best interests of the community at heart. Libraries are in the public service business and if someone is passionate about helping, it's a good solid - and interesting place to work. Generally, co-workers are great. Benefits are good.

Cons

The pace of change can be rapid - policies, procedures, new programs and initiatives. It's good to have an open mind about new things.

Pros

Easy to slack, nice people, quiet atmosphere. Opportunities for growth; people already working at the library get first pick from the new job openings.

Cons

Shelvers are constantly overlooked. Patrons will ask you for help instead of the people at the desk because you'll be far more noticeable while moving around shelving books than they are sitting at a desk. Children will tear up the library and you have to clean it up. Many of the employees are very old so if you're young expect to be excluded a lot. My advice is just to go for a circulation associate or tech job as they make more and do WAY less.
