Pros
Spectrum has amazing managers. It is a large family owned company where the family actually works with all the employees. The VP personally does the whole interview for every new employee. He explains in detail how they work hard/play hard. He is a great boss. But expect to work hard for the money. It is a pork processing plant. The supervisors are very upfront and honest. They follow the values the company has established. It is an old building but they are doing a lot of upgrading and expanding. The work floor in processing is cold all day everyday like a refrigerator so you have to dress in layers. The company is serious about food safety so there is a dress code policy we all have to follow. If you work in Harvesting it is like 80 degrees all day from all the equipment so you have to decide to you want to work in the cold or hot. The company treats the employees really well if you can handle the work environment. You can learn a new job level when you are ready and they pay everyone for learning more job levels. No one pays more in the area but again be ready to work.
Cons
The work isn't physical but it bothers a lot of people. High turnover because everyone sees how much they pay so they think they can handle the job. You have to want to work in the cold or hot environment. And they cut meat so even though we want to eat ribs and bacon, not a lot of people can actually make it so they quit a lot. I was one of them. I love ribs but I can't make them out of a pig. A lot of people that quite tries to blame the company for them quitting but the reality is we just can't handle the work. I won't lie, the company is great with great benefits but the work of processing meat is not for everyone.
