Rotating 12 hour shifts - straight time for holidays and weekends - Primary Plant Equipment Operator Southern California Edison Employee Review

Pros

Job stability - In Operations you have to be a complete loser or become a felon to get fired. Lots of days off with rotating shift work - 7 in a row every 5 weeks. Ability to transfer to other jobs or work in temporary work assignments is good after qualifying Primary. How many jobs pay you to train for a full year before you do any actual work? It is nice to surf the internet when things are slow - sorry SCE attorney but it keeps me awake!

Cons

12 hr shifts behind the fences with guards, guns, and cameras everywhere while people bbq on the beach and all your family and friends are off work. Putting up with all the new programs, blue books, rules, and other smoke and mirrors that management crams down your throat. Dealing with the stress of passing exams on volumes of material that were never correctly taught to you. Wasting you life surfing the internet all day when things are slow.

Pros

Pay, they pay very well. Interesting work and SOME very sharp people.

Cons

The department I was in was very toxic. Company claims to be values based but that is a joke. The "leaders" in my OU were abusive and have been reported to HR multiple times by many people. Nothing was ever done. The entire company isn't toxic, its too bad that some of the areas are.
