Pros
Despite the complex regulatory environment the utilities are required to operate within, the company does a good job of navigating through it. The people at all levels are great people to be around both professionally and personally. The company from top to bottom strives to achieve work-life balance. I feel as though they do. There are some that micromanage and want you to put in insane hours. It only requires slight elevation to resolve the problem. Courses offered through the company are fantastic that span across the many different departments the company has to offer. The company does a great job investing in the future of the company employees. There are no shortage of opportunities in any field related to the company: field work, field management, office work, office management, community relations/public outreach, HR, IT, environmental, accounting, etc. Offices are in small town communities to downtown metropolis areas. Benefits are second to none. I try to find positions for all of my friends and family in the company. To me, there is no higher endorsement than that.
Cons
Due to the complex regulatory environment and political spotlight the company is in, sometimes the work scope you had in mind can change at a moment's notice. Be prepared to be put in to some unfamiliar positions, but the company will take care of you. You may get the impression that the contractors make way more money than you do, that is not the case. Get used to not wanting another job. Be happy you are at this company.
