Pros

Honestly, my customers were probably the only pro to this job. Everything else was pretty awful.

Cons

Savannah/Pooler GA location -Ownership takes advantage of employees. She pays them $10 an hour but expects them to run the front counter, do all the cleaning, take care of customers and be the baker. I was promised a raise after I was trained, however I was there almost 9 months and never received the raise. However in that 9 months I was left alone to run the store, had baking shifts that I was never paid for, was fully trained on everything in the store, yet was still never given the raise I was promised. I was making macarons on my own within the first week as I was the only one who had ever attended culinary school, yet was still paid and treated as if I had no knowledge. I was then attacked while on the clock by a co-worker. The owner apologized profusely to me, however since my attacker was friends with the owner, I was the one to be let go from my position (March 2026). Smallcakes are individually owned, so corporate will not assist you if you are mistreated. I spoke to the CEO personally and they said that they didn't care what happened in their stores, they simply franchise out their name. You will have absolutely no support in this position, but be expected to run the store as if it was your own. When I took this position I understood the low pay rate was in exchange for knowledge in the industry. The owner promised to take me under her wing and provide an apprentice type environment since she could not afford to pay me what I was asking. I then came to find out that this company works off of pre-processed items, so there was never an exchange of knowledge for my low pay. Unfortunately there was nothing new to learn at this location that I haven't already learned from the back of a Betty crocker box, or the freezer section at Sam's wholesale club. The smallcakes environment seems very toxic. I was also in talks about managing the Statesboro, Georgia location and it was honestly just as bad. The owners of this franchise will take advantage of you to increase their bottom line, that's just how this company runs.

Pros

Owner was easy to work with and worked with my availability. Free cupcake at the end of shift. Coworkers were nice too.

Cons

Lots of things to do. Mixing frosting was difficult.
