Pros
-The employees are mostly immigrants and are friendly.
-The company is quite flexible in terms of time off if you tell them ahead of time that you want or need time off.
Cons
-Very long hours during the summer months and during early spring (12 hours 7 days a week at the beginning of herring season in March/April) and almost no hours during late spring and early summer.
-Little room for advancement as senior people do not leave very often
-communication can be difficult with so many different native languages
-Wages aren't great, but not terrible considering that people with no experience and immigrants with little education can perform the required duties.
-Production jobs can be very boring after a while as there are a lot of repetitive tasks with little thought involved.
-Very loud and messy environment, but it should be expected given we are processing fish
-some people are worked much harder than others, yet do not make anymore money.
