Pros

Great place to do your first internship. The company is small, has a diverse range of clients, and is in a great location. You learn a lot about public relations and there's a lot of exciting opportunities to work more closely with accounts that you take a liking to. They really appreciate and take note of those who work hard and go the extra mile.

Cons

At times the job felt stressful for no real reason at all. Everything thing you do is analyzed. If you have chipped nail polish, look off for a second in a meeting, or slouch in your seat it will be analyzed and criticized. Makes employees feel on edge 90% of the times. -- Account executives are friendly for the most part, but most of them don't take out the time to get to know or talk to the interns. -- There's quite a bit of menial grunt work from time-to-time, which is expected but some of the tasks (especially the owner's personal ones) felt downright degrading. -- The owner is a little intense at times and everyone seemed to tense up whenever she arrived (think that scene in the Devil Wears Prada when Miranda arrives in the office for the first time. OK, not as dramatic as that but you get the point). Whenever she left early for the day I swear it felt like everyone was gasping for air the moment she walked out the door. It made the culture and atmosphere of the company feel very ingeniune at times. -- Not very diverse, which is expected because the company is so small. But even the interns seemed like carbon copies of each other both physically and background-wise.

Pros

Working at SHP for a semester was such a formative experience as part of my professional and educational development. Here I’ve learned so much about what goes into Public Relations from the research, to the communications, and final results. Having the opportunity to work in such a collaborative environment is a rare opportunity, and is what makes SHP such a warm and welcoming community. I learned so much from the account executives as they taught me how to develop media lists, create congratulations notes and mock ups, and send out mailings, all while giving me feedback. I truly felt like a member of the team at SHP and will take everything I’ve learned from working here with me as I continue on in my professional life.

Cons

Pros

My experience as a Public Relations Intern at Sarah Hall Productions was overwhelmingly positive. From day one, the team made me feel incredibly welcome and valued. My duties were explained thoroughly, and the staff always encouraged me to ask questions. I found this workplace emphasized thoughtful, efficient communication at all times. As a student intern, I was responsible for crafting congratulatory communications, itineraries, and monthly PR reports, research and answering phone calls. My most meaningful experience was the weekly meetings where interns presented select media outlets to pitch clients to. This truly made me feel like I had a seat at the table and that my input was valued. I especially appreciated attending a client’s live TV booking. Going behind the scenes at a TV studio, meeting the client, and watching them discuss their recent project was truly a valuable experience. I became more knowledgeable about so many topics through this internship, from vegan cooking and skateboarding to celebrity styling. This made each day feel exciting and dynamic. On a personal note, the team was an absolute pleasure. Everyone expressed genuine care in my school and personal life. Early on, Sarah invited me to discuss my goals as well as how I felt about the internship thus far. Sarah also included me in tasks that she knew I was interested in based on our previous conversations. These discussions played a vital role in my work as an intern to understand trends in the PR industry, and created a valuable opportunity for mentorship. I would recommend SHP’s internship to anyone who is looking to learn about the PR industry or grow as a publicist. It allowed for consistent mentorship and constant growth.

Cons

No cons! However, you must be prepared to work hard and accept constructive criticism.
