Pros
Good wage for our area. Average benefits for our area. Excellent vacation and sick time. A family atmosphere, "in some Stores". Flexible scheduling. Advancement opportunity (At a price and its your "time".)
Cons
There have been so many over the years and they often change. We do feel as though we are hard-selling our customers. Not good! We are pissing most of them off! My own friends tell me they are annoyed. As a union worker there really isn't much that can be done to us for failing in this area, however, if you are a good employee and I am, you want to succeed! The company execs have taken away our ability to be owners of the stores we work in with the rediculous expectation in the service program. Just about the time we master an attribute they come up with something alittle harder for us to accomplish! They've taken the sincerety out of the customer interaction by making us perform so many attributes. Basically you become robotic in your discussion instead of sincere. When Steve Burd came on board in the early 90"s he turned our company around with customer service! It was a good thing then, now its just out-dated and and invasive! Our managers fear for their jobs on a monthly basis. I feel bad for them. In the past two years I have seen more than 6 store managers lose their jobs in our district. Tell me that you want to work for or advance in a company that either treats their management so poorly that they seek opportunities elsewhere or they fire them because they aren't making lines, etc. Give me a break!
