Great work/life balance ruined by incompetent management and staff - IT Technician Saddleback College Employee Review

- The management here is pretty clueless. They make decisions based on personal guesses, or feelings, things that have major impact on the campus budget. This results in a lot of wasted money, and effort. Why not get people involved who actually have the knowledge and experience to help you out? - This place is a club of sorts. If you want to move up in management, you better know the right people. Who cares if you're qualified or competent? If you're friends with the senior management, they will carve out a higher position for you. If not? You could be Einstein himself and they will blockade you from any further career progression. - Some of the staff is blatantly unqualified for the positions they hold. They lack the technical ability to take on the projects they are assigned. So what ends up happening is the projects go far beyond the estimated timeline, and nothing gets done until the work is dumped on a more competent staff member. This happens over and over again until the "competent" staff member simply has far too many projects on their plate to complete. The incompetent staff ends up with no projects on their schedule and just end up hiding on campus, playing on their phone, or socializing with other lazy people. Because of CSEA union rules, it's practically impossible to fire them. These people also make 6 figures or more. I honestly don't know how a place like this continues to function. - Declining enrollment. The campus has had declining enrollment for years. Not sure how they justify their enormous annual budget when they are serving 5-10% less students every year.
