Pros

This was an easy summer internship to gain some knowledge on SEO best practices, professional writing, and the like.

Cons

Paid $15 per article written. Required to write minimum 2 articles a week. but can write as many as you'd like. Not much room for learning or expanding horizons. The articles I wrote were all extremely repetitive.

Pros

It was great that this position was remote.

Cons

In my experience, the workplace culture was extremely negative and emotionally draining. Leadership regularly communicated in a way that made employees feel devalued and disrespected. There were instances where employees were called “stupid,” and failures in the business were often placed entirely on staff, regardless of circumstances. Employees were frequently given responsibilities outside their skill sets, and if we were unable to complete them successfully, it was used as a reason to question our employment. Expectations felt unrealistic and unclear, which made it difficult to succeed. Management also frequently spoke negatively about clients, sometimes using inappropriate language, which contributed to an unprofessional and uncomfortable environment. There was a pattern of shifting responsibility away from ownership. Employees were expected to contribute ideas and solutions during regular meetings, yet there was also pressure placed on staff to “fix” the business if it wasn’t performing well. If results were not met, it was often attributed to employee performance rather than leadership decisions or business structure. Communication from leadership was inconsistent. Requests were often made verbally with little follow-up in writing, and when there were misunderstandings, employees were sometimes blamed or told they misheard instructions. Overall, the environment felt discouraging and lacked accountability at the leadership level, which made it difficult to feel supported or successful.
