Pros

The majority of the people you get to work with are top notch. Benefits are solid, although they could be more competitive. I’ve never had a company value training as much as Relativity. Tons of opportunities to get involved: help to recruit, social events like happy hours, parties, and chili cook off, a community giving program, and sports leagues. The company is the industry leader and there’s a lot of promise for growth in the future. Ultimately the company has a lot of the right pieces in place but can never seem to get everything to work together.

Cons

It’s usually two steps forward, one step back. You’ll see some progress be made or it might seem like feedback was heard and then things often get worse again before getting better. There are so many smart, hardworking people at Relativity. Really some of the best in the industry. But the company continues to promote and keep people who don’t pull their own. Everyone knows who they are (except upper management seems blind to it) and nothing is done about it. This is the weirdest thing here. In the last year we have lost so many talented, commited and tenured people because of it. I used to think this was isolated to certain teams, but once you interact with HR you will realize that these types of problems exist at the core. As other posts have said, some of the most unprofessional and frustrating encounters I’ve had in my career have been with leaders on this team. With our quick growth, some teams have expanded to almost comical size while others are still struggling for resources. HR and Security seem to constantly be adding roles while teams like IT and Legal seem horribly understaffed for the new quantity of work they have to do. Ultimately, like a lot of places, your experience is going to be based on who you work with each day. If you have a solid manager and are on an insular engineering team, you’re going to have a really great experience. If you have a weak manager or have to interact with underperforming teams, you’re going to waste a lot of your time doing other peoples work and being frustrated.

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. It%E2%80%99s good to hear your comments about the evidence of our investment in developing people, ways we build an inclusive workplace community and the coolness of Relativity Gives. We%E2%80%99re going to have even more opportunities in all these areas as we move into 2020, so I hope you%E2%80%99ll continue to participate in what we have to offer.I agree that it%E2%80%99s hard to see strong talent move on to new opportunities. Our commitment is to create a chance for each person to have their best work experience while they%E2%80%99re here. That%E2%80%99s why we regularly request feedback of our managers through the performance coaching process, why we address concerns that surface in our Pulse survey and why we benchmark ourselves against competitive companies. In terms of growing, we will continue to hire more employees across the organization globally, including departments like IT and Legal. As for promoting people who don%E2%80%99t pull their weight, we will continue to hone our formalized promotion and review process to ensure feedback and calibration across the business and continue to invite team members to provide feedback and participate in the Manager 360 feedback process. I%E2%80%99d be happy to discuss with you how we%E2%80%99re looking to implement other talent processes in 2020 and invite you to share any other feedback with me directly. --Dorie Blesoff, Chief People Officer

Pros

Great bennies. Loved the office in Chicago -- there was a gym upstairs, and it's in a very pretty building (see opening scene in "The Dark Knight Returns").

Cons

New CEO came in and laid off a bunch of people, including me. With that said, I talked my way into the job -- I was probably a little underqualified. However, I got laid off right when I had finally figured out the job. This was in 2023, mind you.
