Pros

Excellent HR & management. Both of which were actively involved, friendly, and easy to reach. Diverse staff population. You'll run into employees from across Canada, and the rest of the world. Great introductory role to underground mining. You'll get exposure to underground surveying, drafting, reporting, and general QA/QC. Friendly staff, crews, and local population. Given the small size of the operation, you will have known everyone at work and in town by the end of your term. Beautiful small town. Words don't do the serenity of the Baie Verte vicinity justice.

Cons

No in-house Civil department at the time of my employment, projects pertaining to a Civil Engineering are sourced out 3rd party contractors. Deswik is your bread and butter; consequently, the only transferrable skill to our much more sophisticated Civil suite (C3D, infraworks, etc) is line work. The role is constrained to Civil Tech & general QA/QC duties. As a Civil Engineer, the role at RMM is not applicable to what you'd be doing within a mining operation that has a dedicated Civil department. Expect mental burnout. The workplace is diverse, but with much room for improvement to be made in inclusion within the Engineering department; especially for young students. Co-op students are responsible for their own transportation and housing. Expect to net zero, or negative, pay like I did by the end of the month; with the inevitable housing, gas, and suspension repair costs.

Pros

Great place, great people and challenging work environment.

Cons

Money is like water in a straw basket. Poor upper management. Corporate are too much involved with day to day functions.
