Pros
I've been with the department about 5 years and I can certainly say that the pros outweigh the cons, and it really is a good department to work for. As a patrol officer, you will be expected to work hard, write a lot of reports, and answer a lot of calls. It's a busy city that seems like it only is getting busier. With the call volume, you will gain experience and skills that you likely can't get at a smaller, less busy department. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement, and pretty much a unit for every specialty, so you have the chance once you get some experience to find a role that you really enjoy doing. I have had great supervisors during my time, and squad-mates that I genuinely call family. As a department, we have a reputation of being professional and well trained, and it shows in the work that we do.
Cons
Intermittent staffing shortages, similar to most larger agencies these days.
