Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.

Pros

The culture at RLI is unreal. Everyone is like a family. Work life balance is prioritized even with a far commute. Wonderful immersion program for new employees. Feels like my forever company even after just 6 months.

Cons

I haven't found any cons yet in my 6 months. If I had to pick a con, I would say that sometimes the commute is hard as it is over an hour, but the flex work plan has been helpful.

Pros

Strong culture built around ownership, accountability, and collaboration. People genuinely want to help each other succeed, and there’s a clear sense that everyone is working toward the same goals. Leadership provides meaningful opportunities to contribute beyond your core responsibilities, which has allowed me to grow professionally in ways I didn’t expect. RLI invests in employee development through educational support, certifications, and career growth opportunities, and I’ve personally benefited from those programs. The company also offers good flexibility and promotes a healthy work-life balance while still maintaining high expectations and performance standards. Smaller company environment means your work is visible and your impact matters.

Cons

Like many organizations, balancing flexibility with in-office requirements may not appeal to everyone, particularly for people looking for fully remote work. The company maintains high standards and runs lean in some areas, so employees are expected to take initiative and operate independently, which can feel challenging for individuals who prefer more direction.
