It works as an intermediate between the academia and industry, so you have opportunity to work with different projects and apply your expertise. You have some benefits (which is the same as any average company).
Cons
In the past, they provided more stability. Nowadays, the environment has a bit of tension driven by the need of profit (even though it's a nonprofit organization), and those who has no skills in going outside, talk to the people and bring new projects, has no place there. As a consequence, the number of actual researchers (brilliant minds who lacks some social skills or a good networking, or just want to do technical research) are being reduced in the company.
