Pros

1.) Smart coworkers: Definitely some of the smartest colleagues I have ever worked with. They have a vast amount of industry and technical knowledge that can potentially be leveraged to rise above established competitors in the IT space. 2.) Social and volunteer opportunities: There are plenty of internal and external office socials and volunteer opportunities hosted at least quarterly by employee resource groups to boost local team camaraderie. 3.) Decent pay and benefits (overtime available): This company resides in the technology industry so this is a given as there is a lot of demand to pay for smart talent.

Cons

1. ) Work harder not smarter culture: The number one priority of every billable consultant (including managers) in this company is to complete their work on time for the client no matter what the cost. As mentioned there is overtime for this but there is an expectation to complete the work or else it will negatively affect your performance reviews. In one instance, a manager, without asking me but instead emailed my then entire team, told me to work weekends in order to catch up and finish work even after splitting up work. 2.) Lack of structured employee support: Given what was mentioned before, everyone is focused on finishing their own work. On the occasions I asked for support from managers it led to blaming, arguing, dragging on, or getting off topic. Several conflicting messages were told to me from managers including: “why do you need hand holding?” and “Just get it done.” On top of this, in order to obtain billable work, you are told to network with your coworkers while someone from staffing tries to find you a client. I did not see any type of tool or portal where you can search then apply for clients to work for within the company. 3.) Subjective Reviews & Feedback: Client work mistakes are harshly penalized and you can be graded based on your local office attendance and participation. If you get even below average reviews your position is on the line. Feedback was delivered critically to me and others from my own managers on several occasions.

Pros

Good Culture, decent pay, not overworked too much.

Cons

Repetitive, meaningless, and boring work, hard to pivot out of this career once started. Also, the consulting career feels like such a fake job at times. Doesn't feel like real work. Makes you question your life decisions. I'd recommend any college grads to think about their future career goals first before joining. I joined on a whim and wish I spent more time interviewing. It's been incredibly difficult to pivot out of internal audit and sox compliance once you are in it. However, if you are really good at corporate politics and advocating for yourself you may be able to pivot out of the IAFA solution . However, not sure how that lends it self if you want to leave the company.
