Pros
I’ve worked with PRS for five years, these are the reasons why: The staff are great! No weekend work, ever – no matter how much work is coming in. Reasonable deadlines (I’ve had other agencies who have demanded work to be returned within 12 hours - in comparison, PRS never require work to be returned within a tight deadline). You can vary your workload depending on availability. You can book holidays as required. The work is varied and usually interesting. A good mix of editing levels, from light to heavy. Regular, reliable and fast payments (often same day) – in comparison, some other agencies can take well over 60 days to make a payment.
Cons
The low fees are the Achilles heal of Proofreading Services. However, you have to bear in mind that their prices include your fee, the admin costs (some clients can be more demanding than others, a few can be very demanding), plus the marketing costs and finally a profit. Honestly, I don’t know how they can do it all at the prices that they charge. The pros far outweigh the cons!
