Project progress can be slow because there aren't too many developers

Small company allows one to do many different tasks and grow technically on one's own initiative. Has small niche product which is nearly as good as competition.

No processes are in place for most engineering/software efforts. For instance, no code reviews or design reviews processes. Design specifications are not written down and continually changing and evolving. Management culture actually discourages teamwork. The company relies mostly on its customers to test its equipment. Competition generally has better product. Plexon plays catchup most of time by introducing upgrades already incorporated into its competitor products.
