My experience as a local fuel hauler at Pilot Flying J was disappointing and unsustainable. While the job is critical, the company's approach to its drivers makes it a thankless and difficult role.
The work demands incredibly long hours, yet the compensation does not reflect the significant time and effort required. I often felt that the pay was simply not worth the stress and physical toll of the job. You can work as hard as you can, but there's no praise or recognition for that effort.
A major issue is the lack of accountability from dispatch. If a mistake is made on their end, the blame is almost always shifted to the driver, creating an incredibly frustrating and unfair work environment.
Furthermore, the work-life balance is nonexistent. You are expected to work every single holiday, and the chances of getting any personal time off are slim to none. This makes it impossible to plan for family events or personal obligations.
Overall, I would not recommend this position to anyone looking for a career with a healthy work-life balance or fair treatment. The long hours, low pay for the amount of work, and constant blame make it a very difficult job to sustain.
