Pros

Benefits, PTO, opportunities to advance or develop nursing skills.

Cons

Administration failed to recognize the financial implications associated with sign on bonuses, retention bonuses, OT pay incentives, and hiring agency and international nursing staff to meet the demands of COVID. They removed unfulfilled FTE positions, cut down OT bonus rates or removed them entirely, and have been cancelling nurses prior to their shift despite there being multiple need’s throughout each unit. How do they expect the nurses to do more, with less compensation? We held things together when the world was falling apart, and this is the thanks we get? The problem is your inability to accept responsibility, and look at alternative ways to cut costs, that don’t negatively impact the delivery of patient care. We don’t have money to maintain adequate, safe staffing? Then why are multiple units under renovation and at what “cost?”

Thank you for choosing a nursing career with Penn State Health. We hope you feel that you make a difference in the community. Penn State Health staffs nursing coverage in alignment with patient acuity needs and ratios. Traveling nurses are also employed to maintain appropriate coverage for our patients. Select positions across the health system have been removed, but we are still actively hiring for many clinical and non-clinical positions. In addition to our competitive market pay, our Total Rewards offers employees paid time off, parental leave of absence, annual performance-based merit programs, employee healthcare concierge services, tuition benefits, and much more.

Pros

Decent company to work for depending on your department. Benefits and pay are average, enjoy(d) what I do each day and my peers were supportive.

Cons

We recently began losing a lot of great technicians over the last year. HR doesn’t hold management accountable for policies involving harassment and retaliation. Our department was always top notch but began failing significantly beginning in 2025. Now everyone is leaving or being fired for unwarranted reasons. Growing concerns over outsourcing due to lack of accountability in management.
