Pros

Positions in most departments involve mostly working from home. Occasional meetings on Mercer Island, but great flexibility so ideal for working parents. Positive, upbeat environment, sometimes perks to shows and events. Excellent opportunities for professional development.

Cons

What you gain in flexibility, you give up in compensation. Even though freelance or part-time, workers are expected to volunteer at company marketing events regularly.

Pros

If you want a company that understands that life happens, ParentMap is the place for you. The team is dedicated and driven without sacrificing the flexibility we all need to get things done both professionally and personally. High quality organization with high quality events, content, ads, and, most importantly, people.

Cons

No health insurance or retirement package (though I was surprised at how easy and affordable it was for me to set these up on my own). You'll be remote but this isn't your throwaway work-from- home-day; prepare to be busy and to have regular in-person meetings all around Seattle.

Pros

A trusted content producer for the family lifestyle space, ParentMap has some cred as a free newspaper with strong web presence in the Seattle market.

Cons

The company is run on a tight budget. No one who works for ParentMap is paid what they are really worth. The conference room is in the dining room of the Publisher. Everyone works from home, so the camaraderie among the staff of predominately well-educated, talented women, is almost nil.
