Pros

As an intern at PIRA I was both surprised and delighted by the consistent effort on the part of my colleagues to make me feel like I was one of the group. If you have any interest in moving into energy consulting and want to get an inside look into this field and be surrounded by great, intelligent people while you're doing it, PIRA is 100% the place for you.

Cons

Can't think of anything, really. Those not interested in energy markets, or don't like research-intensive work might not be cut out for it. Also, the environment might be a bit different with the recent Platts merge, so be aware of that going in.

Pros

PIRA is loaded with industry experts whom you can learn from every day. Being a small organization you have the opportunity to work with many different departments and gain insights from all areas of the energy markets. All of the consultants and analysts are incredibly intelligent and willing to teach younger analysts. Amazing environment to learn in.

Cons

Some managers probably make for better analysts and consultants than actual managers. Salary is capped for younger analysts unless you put in the extra work that separates you from the pack. Growth opportunities are there, but you really need to shine to be able to seize upon them.
