Pros

Good people (mostly) Plenty of opportunity Bonus and share package compensation

Cons

While many companies in the Edmonton region are now forcing employees to work from home, Edmonton universities have cancelled in-person classes completely, and the government is forcing gatherings > 250 be cancelled, PCL continues with business as usual. A manager instructed to not self-quarantine without a doctor's note. That is NOT how a self-quarantine works, you are supposed to stay AWAY from public. Not only is that irresponsible and ignorant of what's happening in our province, it's DANGEROUS. It risks the health of PCL employees by making symptomatic employees come into work, or if they are to seek a doctor's note, they are exposing themselves to the world. That is NOT a self-quarantine. PCL, you're going to have to enact a work from home policy sooner than later. COVID-19 travels silently and many don't know they're symptomatic until it's too late. Or is it worth saving a few bucks to risk the health of others.

PCL continues to follow recommendations from Health Canada, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, and updates employees as these develop. As such, all in-person office meetings have been restricted to a maximum of 6 people with social distancing and other sanitary measures in place. We also fully support situations requiring self-isolation (without burdening the health care system) and work-from-home arrangements in many circumstances. The type of situation you describe is not aligned to PCL’s commitment to safety and our people. I encourage you to reach out to your district HR manager or any members of senior leadership to provide details on this situation. You could also utilize our confidential ethics hotline or reach out to us at glassdoor@pcl.com with more details of your experience so we can investigate.
