Pros
- The team are an amazing group of dedicated and talented people
- You’ll have the opportunity to forge relationships with a wide range of industry people, depending on your role
Cons
OMG is a small start up that has experienced astronomical growth over a very short period of time and has struggled to recalibrate internally to reflect this.
As a result, there is a high turnover of staff, with many leaving within the first 6 months.
- Job descriptions are vague or so broad as to be impossible for one person to fulfil; if they exist at all
- Pay reviews and formal check in’s do not occur; equity is purchased by staff, not given
- Training does not happen
- No pathways for meaningful career development or mentoring, as everyone is stretched too thin
- Boundaries are blurred, with an expectation you’re always online
- Culture consists of an occasional team lunch, organised and paid for by staff
- Extremely low staff morale across different offices
- Negative top-down approach from management - employees are not valued and are seen as expendable
- Communication across teams/offices is poor, leading to inefficiencies or work being duplicated
