Pros
The library staff and supervisors are some of the most supportive and helpful people I've ever met. They are great collaborators and open communicators - not necessarily the introverts you'd expect. This is a great starter position for someone fresh out of college with a communications degree, or just a gig on the side for someone with a communications/marketing background. I gained a lot of good, new experience at OCPL, and value my time there immensely. I only left because of a relocation for my significant other's job, and in hopes of a full-time job opportunity for myself.
Cons
Because the library is ran by county government, they can only provide compensation based on approved budget. So the position is (or was) only part-time at 25 hours - just 5 hours from being considered full-time, to the best of my understanding. The pay isn't good; I had to wok a second job and just barely made it work. There are no benefits except a small 401k plan, as well as paid sick and vacation leave. However, the current director really wants to change all of that by making the position full-time. She just needs county approval, unfortunately.
