Pros
Octopus really do care about their staff and you can tell even by the amount of effort put into the interview process. I had three interviews (one with a recruitment agent from Instant Impact, then a team leader/manager and finally Head of recruitment) in order to determine that the company and I were the best fit for each other, rather than a one-sided evaluation. Therefore, I was asked about what I would want from the company, working environment, management style etc. I also had a lot of support from Instant Impact, who coached me before the interviews and answered all of my questions. Despite me starting this job during lockdown, the company adapted quickly so the training process has been planned in detail, so you always know exactly what stage you're in and what's coming next. The pre-training and training team are amazing, they're happy to answer any questions and often do group video calls to check up on how everyone is doing. Also, most new recruits start in groups, so you have the help and support of each other too.
Cons
Whilst the long interview process did show the company's commitment, I have to say that it was very difficult. With three interviews and a literacy and numeracy test, it is intense. They expect you to do a lot of research into the company, and this research must increase between each interview so that you do not recycle facts. The last interview was especially difficult, with an in depth look into any gaps in my CV and a conversation about my potential long-term goals at the company. However, if you do put in the work, it pays off.
