Pros
O'Reilly Auto Parts is probably the most professional yet fun place I have ever worked for. There is an atmosphere in the workplace that lets you know it's safe to have fun, yet be a professional. The upper management in the company knows that people are human and understand personal issues. The benefits are awesome. They are offered to all Team Members, not just full time positions, and they range from a basic coverage to a full coverage. The pay rates are experience driven, so inexperienced can expect close to or maybe slightly above minimum/hr, while experienced at an entry level can expect closer to $10/hr to start out. Any position above entry level can expect to be experienced and possibly between $10/hr to $12/hr. Pay above that is typically into the store manager and higher levels. The flexibility of the company and it's team members is a great benefit to O'Reilly. The company hires only individuals qualified or competent enough to be trained to do their jobs, and turns them into Team Members. Hostility in the workplace is frowned upon and addressed immediately if it ever occurs. Hostility does not in this case mean violence, but simple bickering about a shortfall in a TM's (team members) performance if it were to fall short on occasion. Always handled with respect and treated like equals instead of other companies that treat people as employees that can be hired and fired at will. You never feel as though your job is threatened unless you've made a major mistake and you know it and it's a terminal offense. However, this doesn't guarantee termination. Again, upper management is forgiving and understanding and gives multiple chances to make amends or fix the issue before simply letting a team member go. They believe in promotion from within, which gives current TM's many chances for improvement, advancement, and achievement. The availability of parts for customers is simply unbelievable. If O'Reilly Auto Parts doesn't have what you need, we will go get it for you where ever we possibly can and try our best to make sure the consumer gets the right part the first time, for the lowest price. TM's get a $200 charge account to use on their own vehicles to repair them as necessary that only requires payment once a month. And the TM's account carries a discount of close to or 10% above cost, Max, which is excellent. If O'Reilly Auto Parts isn't the best company to work for in the US, it's definitely near the top of the list.
Cons
I would say one downside could be a lack of staffing at some stores. Sometimes TM's are forced to work more hours and put aside personal lives due to this. However, depending on lifestyle this could be a pro or a con. Some people have families and would like to see them, some are single and want more hours. All in your perspective. Occasionally an error outside your control happens and you get blamed for it by customers, so if you can't deal with people, DO NOT WORK HERE. The job depends on people coming in to the store, so if you're not a people person, you need not apply. Some pay rates are not necessarily based on a scale of experience that's uniform across the board. Experience held is rated by the different hiring managers differently. This is normal for most companies, but can be damaging for the experienced who end up with a lowball hiring manager. You do have to buy all your own uniform clothing, which isn't abnormal, but it can be an issue at times, especially when money is tight.
