Pros
Before the county sold NHRMC to Novant, this wasn't just a great place to work if you were located in Wilmington, NC, it was a place to move for even if the beach offered zero appeal. From the tip top, to the very bottom everyone was invested and put their money where their mouth was every day.
Cons
I had left healthcare years ago when the "Great Consolidation" began where I originally lived and worked. Consolidation is often a way to "save" a building, but after nearly three decades of watching it play out, it almost never ends up living up to the hype a community believed they were going to get. For Wilmington, it was definitely more loss than gain. I'm sure it brought in a lot of cash for the county, but once that money is spent I doubt the lasting benefits will outweigh the negative impacts. I left that community about a year after the sale and just like all the others, the impacts on the "people" which is always talked about in the beginning and forgotten in the end will likely take a decade or more for the dust to settle to see the real impacts.
