Pros
Pros: the coworkers at the shelter, emphasizing the “AT THE SHELTER” The relationships you build with clients Helping people in need Good experience
Cons
Poor work schedule No work-life balance Never get any time off even when requested months in advance and if you do get the time off you’re told right before it’s the time so you cancelled your plans thinking you had to work There’s no direct deposit option, they lie to you and say there is after 6 months, there’s not. The pay is awful for the work you have to do everyday There are unreasonable goals to meet everyday The directors are the founders daughters and they treat everyone horribly, clients have left because of how the directors talked to them and several staff have reported getting yelled at by the directors for bad reasons. The company and management is completely disorganized. If you’re not liked by staff (client or staff) they will find reasons to get rid of you or drive you out. The directors don’t care about the clients here, they have very little interaction with these clients and treat them poorly, and at the end of the day all they care about is funding so that they can be paid more. You never work a consistent schedule. You’re told the schedule will be consistent next time and it never is. the rules of the shelter are strict and you are expected to uphold every one and write clients up for little things. Oh and don’t plan on getting any holidays off either for the most part, or using your vacation time. Also all paperwork is done physically, there’s no typing, you write out lengthy reports everyday that are then put into the computer at a later date for some reason they prefer paper?
