Pros
They value and promote work/life balance. The corporate headquarters is beautiful and has an awesome coffee shop, cafeteria and fitness facility. Many of my best friends work here - there are many "work hard/play hard" moments. Overall it's an awesome culture. Part of the Great American family of companies, which is rock solid financially and a great employer. Also, National Interstate specializes in captives, which make insurance more interesting and rewarding to manage and sell. They promote heavily from within, which helps preserve the culture.
Cons
Systems have always been behind the curve, but we're spending a ton of money on some upgraded systems. Pay is not top of the industry but the company has moved the needle meaningfully and top performers get rewarded.
