Pros
- Amazing families & students - Hardworking, loving & talented teachers
Cons
- Abusive Administration - Bigoted Leadsership In a community with such incredible resources, amazing families, and wonderful teachers, the teacher retention rate is abysmal. This tells you something. If you’re respected and loved by the families you teach, that’s seen as a threat to the power dynamic of the very top-down district administrators. Unfortunately, their fragile egos have an awful trickle-down effect that forces principals to compromise their values (or be fired), makes teachers feel miserable/trapped/unappreciated, and ultimately impacts the classroom and the quality of the education for the incredible students. Teachers are so horribly abused here, and it’s heartbreaking because of how dedicated and student-driven they are. However, they are repeatedly beat down in regular flexes of power by the admin (particularly stemming from the assistant superintendent who sets the culture).
