Pros

This company gave me my first opportunity in the industry, for which I am grateful. I gained valuable experience that will benefit me throughout my career and was given multiple opportunities to cross-train and develop additional skills.

Cons

While there are opportunities to learn, advancement is limited and can take time. Promotion-related pay increases are based on your initial wage, meaning that accepting a lower starting salary can significantly affect future compensation, regardless of the posted pay range. The company frequently pays higher wages to external hires rather than investing in those who consistently perform well. HR’s inability to address me by the correct name during my exit interview spoke volumes about how much they value their employees. Get all the experience you can and then get out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with NAMSA. We’re glad to hear that your time here provided valuable industry experience, development opportunities, and exposure to cross‑training that supported your career growth. NAMSA does promote internally, and many of our leaders and individual contributors have grown their careers here through internal progression. We have a structured framework for promotions and promotional increases designed to ensure equitable and consistent treatment for all Associates. Compensation decisions are based on role scope, performance, internal equity, and market data—not solely on an associate’s initial starting salary. Our intent is to balance competitiveness with fairness across the organization. We appreciate your acknowledgment of the learning and development opportunities you received and wish you continued success in your career.

Pros

You get a lot of leeway with your schedule in the study director group if you get your work down without complainants and are available when the lab needs you. WFH. Coworkers are alright, I've had a lot worse.

Cons

No actual bonus, but they include it in the "total compensation package" value and use to hold the possibility in front of you to pull as much work from you for as little pay as possible then pull it away at the last minute. Very stressful. Understaffed. Systemic issues that will likely never be fixed. Run by venture capitalist firm who is doing everything to squeeze every last cent from the company. Cutting cost is the priority now rather than good science. NAMSA used to do "good science" and now, it's just "science". It would be bad science if the employees didn't have integrity. The top leadership doesn't seem to understand the day-to-day activities and how their decisions affect the employees. Burnout is at an all time high.
