Not the best place to work - Guest Services Museum Of Science and History Employee Review

Great environment and conducive to learning and working a full work week during the summer.

The pandemic made volunteering hard to meet program requirements, but that's just the circumstances of the time.

A staple museum for the Memphis area, with a long history in the community. Planetarium shows and movies and documentaries on the giant screen are a fun and unique experience. Guests are typically friendly and enjoyable to work with.

Incredibly hostile work environment. There is little to no communication between departments or from top management down. Management never seeks insight from those who manage the day-to-day operations when looking to make changes to pricing or staffing needs or planning staff coverage for special events, consistently leading to negative experiences for the staff and guests alike. There are no systematic procedures in place, so training of new hires is consistently incomplete. There is a high turnover rate that is a direct result of poor management. They do not value their part-time staff (which are the majority of this particular department). The highest level of management recently seems to be making incredibly short-sighted, reactionary choices that I fear do not bode well for the longevity of this museum and many of the jobs within it.
