Pros

- Work remotely - Opportunity to work in multiple functions - Client-facing work - Very few organizational constraints or restrictive processes - Meals at 1776 (Crystal City campus) - Decent happy hours every 4 months or so

Cons

- the company has no idea what it wants to be when it grows up (or even what it is today) - unprofessional management that often ignores or doesn't respond to employee questions/concerns - performance reviews based on expectations never communicated to employees - paychecks are always late - very poor and 'cloudy' internal communication - no vision for the future of the company; where are we going? - no focus ('We do everything') Biggest 'business' issue: CHAOS. We say we have capability in human-centered design, insurance, deal-making, blockchain, Slack, strategy, technology, UAV's, and a slew of other areas of expertise. But we don't have a core set of skills that we apply to all those areas. We're an inch deep and a mile wide, with no 'North star' to guide us. Biggest 'cultural' issue: TRUST IN MANAGEMENT. Management/execs tell you that you've screwed up, but don't take the time beforehand to outline your role, their expectations of you, or to answer your questions or concerns when you raise them. For a company that says it's 'people focused,' it leaves its people under-equipped, uninformed, and with little to no direction. But you'll be crushed in your review for not hitting all your performance expectations (that you probably didn't know about to begin with). Many of us joined the company because of the glowing description given to us by the execs during the hiring process. But reality doesn't even come close to how they self-describe the business. It's a mind-bending mess.

Pros

The company promotes a very collaborative work style. We work in agile teams that are set up to respond to client and company challenges so any given week a consultant could be working on various issues. The company is really committed to growth and professional development of all of its people, but that presents a challenge for some people. Motivf management push leadership on people so it causes everybody to get out of their comfort zone. Everybody works together really well despite being located across the United States and around the world. We use Slack for most of our communication and a bunch of video conferencing tools, and they kind of foster a community network online. That makes it easy to work on projects that are on the other side of the world or country and to feel like you know the people you are working with even if you have never met them.

Cons

We have a lot of tools but not a lot of people know about them. I am always finding that we have more templates and stuff that I didn't know about. The pace of professional development and leadership responsibility puts pressure on some people. It is probably great for a certain personality type, but not for everybody. Client projects are diverse and sometimes you are working with somebody on the other side of the country (as a specialist) when it would be easier to work face-to-face.
