Pros

Innovative Interesting and useful work Some opportunity to spend working time on Proof of Concepts and R&D Great People, a lot of the negative comments about Morningstar are about political infighting. In my experience on the technology side people generally try to help each other but aligning priorities is a constant challenge with a fragmented team. There are people on the technology team that are true experts in their craft and are able/willing to help junior and intermediate people learn. Morningstar's open and honest communication value means that you can ask questions, you can challenge the opinions of senior people, it's a great collaborative environment. Senior people are accessible and approachable. Technology group is a meritocracy for the most part. Good ideas are implemented regardless of who suggested them. Most Senior Managers are qualified to be in their position, CTO is very bright and still gets his hands dirty with a keyboard from time to time.

Cons

It's proven difficult to retain the best and brightest. If you lose a team member you have to re-justify the position which is tedious and time consuming. After months of interviewing, you find the right candidate and then find out the position was frozen. This encourages us to hire someone who is not perfect quickly before the position is withdrawn and you need to start over again with re-justification. As mentioned in the "Pro" the technology team is not very political (from my perspective), but I have seen quite a lot of politics being played on the non-technology group.

Pros

Honestly amazing, the pay is amazing, 150,000+ for an analyst, with great benefits and the ability to work from home.

Cons

Hard to beat another firm that will pay 150,000 base for junior employees. People often forget to respond or follow up in the company but just stay patient.

Pros

Honestly, the only pro is the flexible pto policy.

Cons

Morningstar hooks new grads up with this program where they keep you answering the phone on customer support for years without actually learning skills or rotating you to new roles as promised. Once you are finally able to rotate, no roles will want you because you don’t have any experience doing anything other than answering the phone for clients. And after, you don’t qualify for others companies new grad jobs. I don’t recommend this program to anyone. It is not what they advertise it to be.
