Pros
This is the birth place of silicone products. The Waterford, NY facility was the first one of its kind manufacturing plants that started back in the 40s under the GE umbrella so there is a lot of history here. There are folks that are now retiring after 40+ years of service with as many as 3 generation of family service. Company is also investing in projects to grow the business despite weak financial situation.
Cons
With all that said, things started to decline when GE sold the business to Apollo in 2007, who are just a bunch of investors that know nothing about chemical manufacturing. The union here is too strong for it own good. There are some really good operations folks but most of them are just there to milk the company. There is so much waste at the company with the biggest one being time...do minimum during regular time so overtime can be justified. Non-except group is not much better with most folks doing bare minimum to keep things moving. With last year being the worst in the history of the company, I am not sure where this is heading.
