Pros
Very high pay per hour - i was a casual rider working like 40+ hour weeks (Feb - June 2022). Base rate was (is?) $30 per hour, after 6pm it goes up to $45 per hour. On sundays I believe it was $60ph. So that was so cool ! Especially being a uni student. But by the end of June they stopped giving so many shifts to casual riders and were making people go full time. I think full time was $25 per hour if I remember correctly. We were able to take home bags of free groceries every night shift. I went grocery shopping once in 3 months. Also most of the time I ate dinner and lunch there. Again, by the end of June though they put a stop to this lol Also - loved my coworkers and most of my hub leaders. Lots of diversity in the team, kindnppl coming from all sorts of backgrounds. I made a lot of good friends there! Mostly young uni students. Majority of the staff are between 18 - 30. Also they gave you lots of clothes “swag” lol that you could keep. And ultimately it was just a lot of riding around Melbourne on an e bike at night or sunset and getting paid for it. Like it felt way too good to be true Also important to note - I’m a women and it wasn’t so bad being surrounded by men - they were respectful. But when I was there, there was literally only one other woman out of 100 riders or something crazy
Cons
Some strict HR ppl that ruined the culture a heap LOL I was close with one of the hub leaders and one of my coworkers who was also a rider and the hub leader let us know that they are keeping track of all of our behaviour and are closely scrutinising us at all times which felt super weird. And then just before o left there was like an influx of bossy HR ppl coming in to like mess up the entire work environment and change everything around. It was so bizarre.. I’m not sure what it’s like now, all my friends have left milkrun since then. It was like all of a sudden it became super strict and we had to be working all of the time, we weren’t allowed to check our phones or listen to music, if we weren’t riding we had to help pack. Like I didn’t sign up to be a packer, I’m a rider ! It was weird and I hated coming to work after that Also obviously no career progression but it was really fun and easy money And the business model is so bizarre idk if they’ll last the end of the year. The first week I was working I calculated in my head how much they would be losing and profiting and the margins were crazy, as backed up by other news articles
