Pros
A good pro is the opportunity that Milestone presents you with, which is the chance to get your foot in the door in the industry. Your Supervisor and Manager will be by your side and support you along the way always in terms of your career. They want you to succeed, so they can succeed as well. I’m very grateful for the management that I’m working with. There’s plenty of learning opportunities and reasonable expectations without unrealistic deadlines or meeting metrics required yet. They will offer a $120 credit for steel toe safety shoes if required by the site.
Cons
There has been some red flags. One, they do not offer a company match for 401k contributions. You would think that would be a no brainer, win-win option to offer their employees but apparently not. I suggest investing your wages earned elsewhere that would love to reap the benefits with you. Secondly, depending on the site location you may have to wear a cheap company customized safety vest. They clearly do not have the budget to invest in their contractors or expect to be taken seriously by their clients based on the quality of these vests. The client I’m working for is a world class company. The current vests don’t exactly project the professional image I think Milestone wants to represent. Third, the company can’t afford to have holidays paid for but you may be able to pick up more hours that week. Finally, it shouldn’t take an additional week to have your paycheck processed successfully. It took an extra week to receive my first paycheck. While I appreciate the apology from Payroll, a one week delay is a frustrating first impression for any new employee. There’s lots of potential for this company, hopefully they figure it out and smooth out the rough edges. I plan on reviewing more as time goes on and more “milestones” are reached.
