Pros
The company is 100% employee owned and this means something. After 5 years you are vested in the company's ESOP and it can be a considerable supplement to a typical 401k. McCarthy hires wicked smart people with an entrepreneurial bent. This leads to a culture where people regularly raise their hand and are 100% committed to the success of the firm. Culture of giving back to the communities where employees live and work. True passion for building at the firm.
Cons
Too focused on success of the firm and not enough on clients. Compensation is poor unless you are part of the senior leadership "circle" or in operations. Culture is not respectful. People are openly criticized for their work and asked to redo hours/days/weeks of work based on the offhand opinion of upper management. The firm is not focused on PEOPLE. Thanking employees or acknowledging the sacrifices made to complete hard jobs is not part of the culture. The firm is completely decentralized so the experience of an employee in San Francisco might be totally different from someone in St. Louis. Old school culture that is slow to change and adapt. Poor work/life balance for young people starting families. Lack of women in leadership roles and poor diversity in general.
