Pros
(Applicable to Field Sales) The people that I work with are what make this company so special. The culture is truly one of a kind. We are a family - and I’ve built some incredible friendships working here. PTO, vacation, and work-life balance are huge perks. We work hard, play hard - and work life balance is encouraged, which makes for happy employees. The company allows you the autonomy to run your own business. It is extremely empowering to be able to make important decisions - without those being dictated or micro-managed at all times. Division Directors are encouraging, ten-yeared, and supportive.
Cons
There is very little opportunity for advancement and upper management has dissolved many positions - essentially stunting the professional and personal growth of current employees. They have recently hired a significant number of Territory Sales individuals who they plan to “advance”, but show little progress in executing that plan. Training and professional development is minimal and needs drastic improvement - this is applicable for ALL levels of the hierarchy (top-level down.) In Field Sales, we get little exposure to team collaboration. Meetings have been cancelled due to budgetary issues, team spirit is dwindling, and the culture that is so incredibly valued, is taking a large hit due to these decisions being made by upper management. The company also lacks process across the board. HR policies are ancient as it relates to pay and benefits. The company will take care of you, but by no means is this the place to work if you’re counting on making a lot of money. They need to pay people according to their geographical location, cost of living etc. The car policy has not been re-evaluated since 2006 - and the maternity leave policy is extremely concerning. I’m not sure what HR does all day with this being the case except hyper focus on “#bemore.” Overall, I would 100% recommend McCain Foods as a great place to work - but it seems as if the focus that the company once had on people, is sadly going away.
