Pros

The junior and midlevel talent is solid. MODCo is able to recruit talented individuals. Good salary. Typical work day lasts 9:30 - 6pm so good work/life balance. President doesn't show up until between 11am - 3pm so there is no pressure to arrive early.

Cons

Talent rarely lasts more than a year as they are driven out by the extremely poor leadership by President Ellie Bamford and CEO / COO Erik Dochtermann. Other leaders have tried to right the ship (Director of Accounts), but the President and CEO have a 'my way or highway' approach and squash any new thinking that doesn't fulfill their personal agenda. The executives create anxiety, panic and micromanage without having the skill set or business acumen to create a good product, support talent, or build a healthy work environment. The result is an extremely disgruntled and unmotivating work place where every single person here is actively looking for their way out. The President acts like an Account Executive who wants to do all the talking, get compliments and blame her agency for anything that goes wrong. A narcissist who's priority is feeling popular with clients and team members who lies, shows up at 3pm and fires people who slights or outshines her. The CEO/COO jumps into the day to day with no clue about the business, making everyone's job harder. This company is his hobby, certainly not his expertise.

Pros

Modco has some great clients, and there's a lot of opportunity for people at all levels to get client exposure. Everyone is able to be 100% remote, although there is an office in NYC if anyone wants to go. Being an independent agency allows teams to do what's really best for their clients. No politics or leadership forcing teams to buy a particular way. Work/life balance is top notch here. Very few agencies are fully remote, and if you need to do something, you can! Hours are very reasonable.

Cons

Being a smaller agency, some of the teams can have single points of failure. If they were to leave, that could cause an issue.

Pros

You will meet some of the smartest people you’ve ever known here especially on the Search and Analytics team. It’s also an agency that you pretty regularly work 40 hours a week- rarely much more. You get to work remotely and have a lot of autonomy to do your job and close the laptop at the end of the day.

Cons

Benefits here are terrible. Health insurance is horrible and expensive. There’s a 401K but no matching or anything and the representative told me it would be cheaper and more fruitful to go get a Roth than do the 401K here. The agency has a horrible employee retention rate. They lost over 50% of the employees in the last year. New management has come in that’s made it very top heavy, and the lack of industry knowledge combined with the “my way or the highway” mentality is what’s burning people out of this agency on top of difficult clients.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that you found your colleagues talented and appreciated autonomy, remote work flexibility, and work-life balance that are important parts of our culture. At the same time, we're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We take employee feedback seriously and understand that organizational changes, client demands, and evolving business needs can create challenges for team members. We would like to respectfully clarify a few points mentioned in your review. While we recognize that perceptions of benefits can vary based on individual circumstances, we continually evaluate our benefits offerings to remain competitive within our industry. Additionally, the statement that the agency lost over 50% of its employees in the last year is not accurate based on our internal retention data. While we have experienced employee transitions, as all growing organizations do, our turnover rates are significantly lower than what was stated. As for leadership changes, we understand that transitions can affect employees differently. Our goal remains to build a strong, collaborative organization that supports both our clients and our team members, and we are committed to listening to feedback as we continue to evolve. We appreciate your contributions during your time with us and wish you success in your future endeavors.
