Pros

great scientific network and instrument accessibility

Cons

-poor managment of holidays (if you work on weekends nobody cares and they are not counted in the vacation accrua either) -postdocs are not allowed to teach classess as instructors or lecturer -salary incredibly low considered the cost of life -poor benefits and if you win fellowship you even lose the 401K

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
