Pros

• Free Fitness Center on-site • Benefits (healthcare, retirement) are good • Quick increase in number of PTO days per year based on length of employment at institution • Changing positions internally is not frowned upon; a surprising number of employees in many positions came from another position within the institution

Cons

• No progression for high achievers; spend enough time and get promoted; slow career and salary growth if you stay; lots of talent ends up leaving • Lack of telecommuting option or highly restricted telecommuting for IT positions • Lack of follow-through by management; say one thing, do another; example – committee of employees convened to discuss why morale is so low and nothing ever came of the committee’s results • Feeling that management says they care but actually do not. Morale has been low for over a year (since the 10% layoff) and the few things that have been done are like bandages on a severed artery. • Over-reliance on contractors who receive telecommute rights and higher pay than actual employees while remaining at the institution well past the ends of their projects • Loyalty to the institution is not valued • Time tracking of salaried employees is required and monitored for some departments • Decision-making and project approvals are very political • Must pay for parking in hospital-owned garage
