Pros

Received decent hourly pay while there.

Cons

There's so much that went wrong there that I'm surprised the company is still running. I was recruited last year to write blurbs for its newsletter. I received zero training and was expected to start writing immediately with very little guidance on what was expected of me. It seemed like those in charge of editorial were figuring things out on the fly. Instead of communicating that I wasn't doing the work to their liking, my Slack access was shut down without warning. I asked if something was going on, was told everything was fine and it was just a mistake. Then, a week later, I was told there'd been some restructuring and I'd been affected by the layoffs…coinciding with Likewise's hiring of two new writers to replace me. I wish they had given feedback on my work instead of pushing me out. It was a nightmarish situation and even more insulting to have it happen right before the holidays.

Pros

The company feels just small enough to feel like you can get to know your coworkers but large enough to allow for mentorship opportunities and learning from more experienced people.

Cons

Have not fully returned from remote work

Pros

The project they are currently working on (a cross-platform movie/books review application) is easy to understand, and yet innovative. Different from companies where we developers have to work around outdated legacy codebases, I learned a lot because Likewise uses the latest software development technologies in the industry (writing this review in 2022). The meetings reflected a friendly environment where hard work is both encouraged and rewarded. I remember receiving a Doordash coupon worth $100 on email after a particularly hard week. That was golden... The level of communication between engineers and designers was amazing. Being able to reach out to a designer (as a front-end developer) is crucial. I would have loved to stay but my contract came to an end.

Cons

Pretty much the same "cons" anyone would experience at a growing startup: lots of work, in a fast-paced environment. I would say that's more of a feature than a con
