Pros
- Very strong engineering team and culture that emphasizes quality, collaboration in the design phases, and autonomy in the execution phases. - Opportunity to work on complex and challenging problems. I work on the machine learning team and we often encounter problems that are not covered in the academic literature, in which case, we do our own research and experimentation! - Relentless focus on building robust platforms with minimal operational overhead and fast feedback loops. This frees up the engineering team to focus on shipping new features and products. - Excellent work-life balance. The engineering team moves at fast but very sustainable pace. There are no hard deadlines or crunch time. Employees take generous amount of vacation thanks to (or despite?) the open-vacation policy.
Cons
As others have pointed out, the commute is rough if you live in SF or in East Bay. That being said, the company is very aware of the problem and provides perks to cover your transportation expenses. We can also work from home on Thursdays.
