Pros

Practical tools and skill building for managing chronic health conditions, while providing social contact for isolated rural elders.

Cons

Work is great but I am perpetually a volunteer because there is no funding to pay workshop leaders.

Pros

Good coworkers, mission, clients, benefits (paid time off is generous). Flexibility to set our own appointments within work hours. Nice staff appreciation event every year. Leadership tries to make it a good place to work. Meeting with our elders in their homes and putting in services they need, helping them and their caregivers is what makes it all worthwhile.

Cons

Pay is abysmal for the expectations , workload and responsibilities. Full time is 35 hours, so it's virtually impossible to get everything done by monthly deadlines. Many if not most employees have second incomes to make ends meet. As a non-profit agency we do the work of the state for much less than what state employees doing similar or lesser work are paid. There is little room for advancement. Low mileage reimbursement rate. Somewhat "addictive organization" : If you believe in the mission and care for your clients and work as hard as you can, you''ll still be told at monthly supervisions about every undotted "i" and uncrossed "t", and it is easy to begin to think this is normal. Because we care, we keep trying. The historically high turnover in case management has seemed to slow somewhat, which is good for our clients. Recent move resulted in 100 people in a cubicle grid which no one really likes (who would?).

Pros

Most of the people who work there are friendly and nice.

Cons

Training is poor with no true system other than verbal. They use outside sources that are generic and not specific to the job. They are not well organized when it come to internal file systems. They use multiple communcation sources that all accomplish the same tasks. When communicating needs they do not listen or provide proper solutions to soilving the issues. People are always getting hired and fired, let go, or leaving. Many departments are understaffed and overwhelmed and stressed. They mention it can take up to a year to learn the ins and out of the jobs but they do not give you that amount of time in most cases.
