Pros

Working in the stores is fun. It's a small retail environment with fun coworkers. It can be slow and boring at times and fast and demanding at other times, but it's usually not too stressful and it's very involving. It will take you a good 6 months before you're comfortable with everything there including the point of service system, all the ins and outs of the products and sales, and understanding the optometrist's side of things. In my opinion, this is a good thing. It's not a boring retail environment. It's very engaging and when you eventually know your stuff it can feel very rewarding to help people with their vision needs. Much of the knowledge and skills will continue to be beneficial long after working there too, especially if you wear glasses or contacts yourself.

Cons

Like I said, most of the regular staff and managers are down to earth and fun to work with/for, but the corporate management are absolutely insufferable. They are without a doubt the worst company I've ever worked for. Their regard for their employees well-being is nonexistent and the decisions the company makes are absolutely terrible. For example, LensCrafters' whole mantra was that they could make glasses in an hour and, since their product is more expensive than what many competitors offer, that was a big selling point. They recently did away with that and now work exclusively through out-of-state labs that take anywhere from 7-14 days to process and are incredibly unreliable and unresponsive when the stores try to find out more information on job delays. They also did away with most forms of commission a few years back so the low hourly pay is all anyone can really expect to earn here. They do offer "spiffs" which are small gratuities you can earn for selling certain items such as a year supply of contacts, but the amount you earn for each sale depends on how much money the store has made that week (stores have weekly sales goals). So if you have a great week of sales and would like to see some compensation for your hard work, you'd better hope everyone else did really well too or you'll probably only see about $10.
