Pros

LUNA excels in creating a culture of inclusion, diversity, and community. I started work as an Intern in the summer of 2017 and was later asked to join the team through a Language Access Fellowship in September 2017. Having no professional experience in business operations, I was given the chance to assist LUNA’s management and was provided with guidance and direction on how a company effectively runs. Management is truly genuine and extremely helpful in all aspects. Directors helped me focus on my professional goals through setting up mentorships and providing me with the resources I needed. I was genuinely excited to go to work every day and so were other employees. Working at LUNA is more than a 9-5 job- I attended multiple community events to see how LUNA’s work was positively serving our community. Lastly, during my time at LUNA, I felt that management genuinely cared about me and my development. They were invested in my continual education.

Cons

The only con of leaving LUNA is leaving all the strong relationships I’ve formed with the staff there. Working at LUNA has shown me how a Language Service Provider is properly ran inside the office and outside in the community and I will forever be grateful for the opportunities I was provided.

Pros

Flexible hours. Good work culture. Will pay for people's medical interpreting certification training.

Cons

In competition for jobs with other interpreters - The fact that there are other interpreters which want the appointments as badly as you means you have to constantly be checking your phone for apt postings , because otherwise someone else will accept the apt before you. Lots of driving, inadequate mileage compensation - Working as interpreter means that one often has to be driving around the Indy to access the many clinics and hospitals. They will compensate you for appointments more than 20 miles away, but otherwise it's you that has to cough up the gas money to get there. Will not compensate for parking fees- if there is a parking fee at the clinic/hospital you're visiting, LUNA will not compensate their contractors for the parking
