Horrible place to work - Unspecified King Retail Solutions Employee Review

Pros

Some of the people who work there are very helpful- which is good because you won't get any help from your supervisors

Cons

This was one of the worst jobs I have ever had- not only is this business incredibly unorganized, and the product they make cheap and of poor quality, but they treat their employees like crap (I'm convinced all these positive reviews are obvious plants to bolster up their ratings). Lets start with the leads. My department had three and none of them actually trained any of the new employees. New people are expected to know the exact way the company wants things done (and their own jargon) on day one. No one tells you how it's supposed to be done, and the work travellers they give you are wrong 80% of the time (which if you're new you're supposed to magically know this). They leave it up to other employees to train you and if you try to approach the leads with any questions, you are met with openly hostile, condescending, snide remarks. If you can find them, that is. One would disappear for great lengths of time, while the others sat around and talked about motorcycles and sports all day. One of the leads, let's call him Boston, would make very racist and sexist comments, and despite numerous complaints to management, he was never penalized. And that leads me to the sexism. The other reviewers who wrote about this issue are absolutely correct- this is not a female friendly workplace and they will go to great lengths to make women quit. Jobs that usually require two large men would be given to one small woman, and when she couldn't finish it in time, remarks would be made about the women who work here being lazy. Men are given jons based on their body types, while the women are given jobs in spite of their body types (short women got the tall person jobs, tall women got the jobs better equipped for short people, etc) The women were expected to give their table space away to the men, to use the broken equipment (more on that later), their comments ignored, or were just publicly humiliated (I was told once to wheel a rack into the paint department, and when I did Boston screamed at me in front of everyone because I was not allowed in the paint department). If you asked them to sign off on things that needed to be signed off on, they would ignore you until the project was late and then would yell at you for it being late. They do everything they can to make female employees feel unwanted and uncomfortable. Dont bother filing a complaint about it though- they won't do anything about it. Now let's talk safety. Most of the equipment is in serious disrepair, and is just plain dangerous to work with. Hand-drills that lock up and jam, nail guns that misfire, A FORKLIFT THAT DOESN'T HAVE BRAKES!!!!!!, and a vinyl form machine that releases toxic fumes (and no proper ventilation), I'm honestly surprised OSHA hasn't shut them down. Also, the men liked to play a game where they'd try to trip each other/throw things at one another/rough-house, and not only did the leads not stop this, they would partake in it. The leads also encouraged garbage/plastic wrap/backing paper to be thrown on the floor to be picked up later. This created a huge tripping and slipping hazard so you had to be on constant alert. As for the product we made itself? We were basically paid to polish turds. Their main concern is output- how fast can they churn something out, regardless of the quality. If you took the time to make it look good you are ostracized. The materials were cheap and would easily fall apart. The veneer on panels would peel right off, and almost everything we got from other departments was spelled wrong/broken/ etc. Our equipment was either broken, or something akin to a kid's craft tool. We were "encouraged" to bring in our own equipment from home, but weren't given any space to lock up said equipment. If you left something out during break or lunch it would get stolen (theft is very common here. Be prepared to have someone take your lunch/tools/cups/ etc if you get a job here). Also, the turnover here is very high. Temps come and go fast, and signed on employees get dropped the second business slows down (even right after you are told that there will be no lay-offs). There are a few people who have been there for a while and I can't understand why- they aren't given much of a pay raise, they are still in the same positions, and there's exactly zero room for advancement. Unless you are up in the offices, you are 100% disposable

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, I know it can be difficult to share this type of information and we truly appreciate it. Hopefully you will take a few minutes and allow me to address some of your concerns. Training has been a very big focus area for KRS as we recognized there were inconsistencies in onboarding new employees. We have hired a training manager are in the process of implementing standardized training for new leads and supervisors to ensure that the new employees we put in those positions are well equipped to be excellent at their job. The next thing I want to touch on is safety. I can tell you that the safety of our employees is of utmost importance to us. We have invited OSHA in to consult with us on our practices, equipment, etc. to ensure we are providing the best possible environment. We have been audited by OSHA as well, and have come out with a great rating each time. Further, our workers compensation insurer just issued us the maximum rebate available due to our incredible safety rating. It is and will continue to be an area that we invest time and resources into. Keeping our employees safe is critical. The last thing I want to address is discrimination at KRS. As a female leader in this organization, the comments about sexism were hard to hear and I sincerely apologize if that was your experience. Please know that sexism and racism of any kind are absolutely not tolerated at KRS. We may not catch all incidents but when we do, they are dealt with swiftly and firmly. We will continue to explore options for employees to share any incidents they witness and make sure people can safely and openly share their concerns. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at Farrah.potter@kingrs.com if you wish to discuss this further, my door is always open as we continue to try and improve the workplace for our employees.
